There are many things you can do, but first you need to find out if a person is a child molester, or not.
Now is as good a time as any to get revenge against sex offenders. This becomes even more personal when these sex offenders are someone who is close to your family.
The biggest problem with some sex offenders is that they sometimes don't register their whereabouts, and often live under assumed names. If you, or your family are in contact constantly with someone that you really don't know that much about, it's better to be safe than sorry, and run a check on them.
What if you have children, and they are alone sometimes during the week with male adults? This could be a music teacher, sports coach, a tutor, babysitter, etc. You can ask for references, but just because a person has good references, they could still have a shadier past, that they are not telling people about.
Yes, strangers do target children, and you need to be aware of your surroundings, and check for known pedophiles in your area. However, 80-90 percent of sex offenders already know their victims, and use this trust to get children into compromising positions. This means that if someone is molesting your children, or those of your family and friends, it was probably by a family member, or a friend.
Here are some other child safety tips you should know about pedophiles:
Not always male - People think that pedophiles are only men, but there are plenty of women who molest children, too. So, don't assume that if your babysistter is a female, she cannot molest your children, and the same goes with teachers, family members and others.
Shame and fear - Many children who are molested are fearful of repercussions by the parents and their molester. They are often told that their parents won't believe them, or that the molester will create a story to counter the child's words. So, don't hold your breath waiting for your child to tell you. It might be years later when your child is a teen, or an adult when you find out what really happened.
Favors offered - many times children are enticed with candy, trips, gifts, and money. If you notice someone is taking your child many places, and they are unsupervised, you might want to look into it further. Also, if your child keeps getting gifts, or always has extra money, this should also raise a red flag.
Observe touching - You should always make your child aware that no person is to touch them with their hands, or body in inappropriate places. Also, they should be aware of someone who always wants to tickle them, or wrestle around with them. During those times a molester could be quickly touching your child in places that they shouldn't.
A few good places to start checking are:
National Sex Offender Public Website - http://www.nsopr.gov/
Listings by State - http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cid/cac/registry.htm
The above websites lets you search for child molesters by name.
Quick Check with Name, or Address - http://www.familywatchdog.us/
Family Watch Dog lets you find child molesters by name, and by address. Just fill out that info, and it provides the information.
Understand that a child molester could also be using an assume name, so if there was any way to look at some identification, that might help determine if they had something to hide, or not.
