People love to run marathons. Marathons are a way of helping people to stay motivated with their weight loss goals. It is hard for many people to get on a treadmill or an elliptical machine and run for hours without having a goal in mind to help motive them. Running a marathon is a great goal. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to run a full marathon. For many of the marathons it is required that people complete races of shorter distances, usually 5K’s or half marathons, before they even qualify for the over 26 miles of a full marathon.

The discipline required to train for a full marathon goes beyond running everyday at the gym or simply being in shape. To run in a full marathon it requires changes to your diet to help your body achieve the level of fitness required for such a run. Balancing your diet with a good level of complex carbohydrates and proteins in addition to cutting down on the trans fats in your diet will help your body to build lean muscle mass. A frame of lean muscle is the best way to help your body to perform at its top form.

There are other things that you can do while you are training to increase your endurance for a marathon. Drinking the right kinds of liquids is an easy first step. Water is the best liquid that you can drink while you are training. Sports drinks only really benefit you when you are in the middle of some intense physical activity, like the actual running of the marathon. Otherwise, water will give your system the best and most natural way of replenishing your bodies lost moisture. Studies have shown the people who will drink cold water twenty minutes before their workout, and then will drink small amounts of cold water during their workouts have outperformed others that drank sports drinks or juices.

Another important way to get more endurance is to add fat to your diet. Researchers have found the importance of Omega-3 fatty acids in the human system. This type of fat has been found to increase the amount of oxygen that is taken into the blood stream in humans. It also improves the strength of the human heart, and cuts down on cardiovascular diseases. The problem is that the human body isn’t able to create Omega-3 fatty acids on its own. Omega-3 fatty acids are produced by other animals and can only be introduced into the human system through ingestion. The best source of Omega-3 fatty acid comes from fish and organ meats in animals. Fish is usually the best source of Omega-3 fatty acid in an Americans diet, as there is very little organ meat in a normal American’s diet. Yet, it is even hard to get enough Omega-3 fatty acids from including fish in your diet. It takes many weeks for the muscles in the human body to be able to absorb the Omega-3 fatty acids into the muscle fibers.

The best way to get the Omega-3 levels you need into your body is by taking a dietary supplement that contains fish oil. A dietary supplement will have the levels of Omega-3 fatty acids that are needed, and it will also be more cost effective than buying and cooking fish. Studies have shown that people who take Omega-3 fatty acids outperform those who don’t.

As you continue to maintain your weight it is great to be involved in a sport like running marathons, but remember to do the things you need to do to increase your endurance and your performance in these events.
