For 10 years, The CBI and Real Business have assembled the A-list of British entrepreneurial life to pay tribute to the future stars of the UK economy. In the words of John Caudwell, winner of a previous Entrepreneurs` Entrepreneur award "this is one of the best business awards events of the year."
This year, the judges include:
- Theo Paphitis, Entrepreneur, After Dinner Speaker and chairman of Ryman and `Dragon`
- John Caudwell, founder of Phones 4 U
- Will King, founder of King of Shaves (2008 Company of the Year)
- Sir Andrew Cahn, chief executive of UKTI
- Vin Murria, chief executive of Advance Computer Software and partner at Elder Street
- Professor Russel Griggs OBE, chairman the CBI`s SME Council
- Martin Allison, After Dinner Speaker and chairman of The Alternative Board
The award categories for 2009 are:
- New product of the year - awarded to a company that has successfully launched a new product or service in the past 12 months
- Green Business of the Year - awarded to a company that has made the most significant and measurable changes to its environmental performance in the past 12 months
- The Global Outlook and Expansion Award - awarded to a company that has most successfully expanded or launched its non-UK operations - and grown its non-UK revenues - in the past 12 months
- The People and Performance Award - awarded to a company that has most successfully devised and implemented modern people and/or process management practices to transform its overall performance in the past 12 months
- The Technology and Innovation Award - awarded to a company that has most successfully implemented and used information and communications technology to transform its overall performance in the past 12 months
- The Customer Excellence Award - awarded to a company that has most successfully demonstrated a genuine focus on its customers - and profited as a result
- Young Company of the Year - awarded to a company that started trading after April 2004, has beaten its original forecasts, and can demonstrate outstanding long-term potential
- Company of the Year - awarded to an outstanding company on a genuine, sustainable growth trajectory, whose growth, ambition and quality of management has enabled it to out-perform its peers and deliver first-class results in the past 12 months
- Young Entrepreneur of the Year - Awarded to an individual, aged 30 or under, who is already a successful entrepreneur and who can demonstrate their potential to build a significant, scaleable business
- Entrepreneur of the Year - awarded to the individual entrepreneur who has made an outstanding contribution to their company, industry sector and the wider economy
- The Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs - awarded to the disabled entrepreneur who can demonstrate their success, the long-term potential of their business and the strongest business case as to why they should win.
Last year's awards were presented by television personality and after dinner speaker Ian Hislop. The 2009 awards will be presented on the 26th November at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square at a celebration gala dinner.
