For more than 10 years now, E-books have been around, but not much was happening in the way of book sales. But all this suddenly changed with Kindle, Amazon's e-book reader.
A world of a difference
Amazon is the largest seller of books in the world and its proprietary e-book reader called the 'Kindle', which it released in November of 2007, turned things round for people struggling in the e-book market.
This was especial awesome news for unknown authors, as they were able to make the most out of this situation. This is because of the plain and simple fact that Amazon owns Kindle and they are constantly seeking new books to include in their library.
A very simple process too
For any author who wants to get his or her book published on Amazon, he or she just has to produce the book in the Kindle format. A paperback version would compliment it, but it isn't necessary. Amazon distributes both.
Now, the next big problem faced by writers is the distribution of the book. Writers have just no way to get their books in front of potential buyers. Of course, writers can always sell their books via their website and maybe through some local bookstores, but neither of these channels usually have much selling power.
It is almost next to impossible to get a book into major brick and mortar bookstores without an established publisher.
Kindle, Amazon's e-book reader works magic
But, by making a book available for Amazon's Kindle, it has the potential to be seen by millions of buyers and that too for the cost of nothing. Remember, if people can't find your book, they can't buy it. By having it on Amazon, people will find it.
Of course before you get your book on Amazon, there are many things that you have to first take care of. You will have to know about various things like getting copyrights, ISBN numbers, setting up your Amazon account, business license, direct deposits, title pages, author credits, and a few other things that though not mandatory, are still worth knowing about.
Getting a book out costs a fortune, does it?
Most authors are of the opinion that it would take a fortune to get their book out in the market place. But, this is not at all true. The bottom line is...you can get your book online and for sale in Amazon's store for nothing.
As has been said, things in the world of book publishing have suddenly changed with Kindle, Amazon's e-book reader.
