Sofa beds are a great way to have two functional pieces of furniture in one. You can use it to sit on during the day and at night you can pull it out and sleep on it. You can use it as a guest bed. If someone comes over at night and they are there late at night rather than them having to drive home, simply pull out the bed and they can stay overnight.
Some homes have the luxury of having a guest room, but if you do not have a spare room, you can have the next best thing, a spare bed. Sofa beds are great for the basement.
You can have an extra room in the basement by having a sofa bed there. You can use the basement as a place for a game room, entertainment center, wash room, and when you have a sofa bed there you now have a guest room.
Sofa beds these days are more comfortable than sofa beds of yesterday. They are better designed to have a thicker mattress so they are more comfortable than sofa bed mattresses of old. But they are also easier to pull out and push back then. And unless you knew the sofa you are sitting on was a bed you could never tell.
Sofa beds are great if one spouse has a cold and does not want to give it to his or her spouse. One can sleep on the sofa bed without disturbing the other. If you painted your bedroom one day, no need to sleep with the paint vapors, pull out your sofa bed and sleep there until the fumes from the paint are gone. Sofa beds fit great in a studio apartment.
Sometimes you only need or can afford a studio apartment, one that is one large room with a kitchenette. You have one living area where you can place your sofa bed. During the day it is your sofa during the night it coverts into your bed. And why not have a sofa bed in your bedroom?
Thomas Jefferson, a man of practical invention besides the father of the U. S. Constitution, had a bed in his bedroom on pulleys. When he was not using his bed he would pull it up to the ceiling so he could use the room in other ways. He believed a bed was a waste of space if you were not using it.
So why not have a sofa bed in your bedroom? This way when you are not sleeping on it you can simply fold it up and have all that space available for other purposes. A sofa bed is great for guests, it is great for a basement, it is a great saver of space.
And sofa beds are better designed than they were years ago. They are the most practical type of furniture you can have in your home. But most people do not have them. But if you do you can be part of the smart and practical minority.
