Skiing is an incredibly versatile sports, it combine our doors, exercise,speed, adrenaline and a great social life all in one activity.



The are many type of skiing, ranking for down hill skiing, telemarking and cross country skiing., In this article focus on downhill skiing


The history of skiing dates back to 5,000 BC , with ancient wall carving found in Norway.

Norway is also considered the birthplace or modern skiing,

Sondre Norheim a Norwegians is consider the ‘father of modern skiing’, He is from Morgedal, norway. He developed the first incarnation of the modern ski. Since then all skis follow his basic design,



About Skiing in ireland

Even though Ireland does no have it own natural ski slopes. the sport is enormously popular with thousands of people taking ski holidays every year. Ireland’s relative closeness to the main ski countries of euro and the wide renage if cheap flight make it a starting point for skiing

The ski club of Ireland operated a dry slop in Kiltiernan just outside of Dublin where you can try the sport our for the first time, take lessons or practice your technique.

Getting Started

Getting started skiing could ben easier there are a wide range ski resorts which focus mainly on getting newbie skiers going.

All ski resorts have reside ski schools which have a range of training course which can take you form complete ski novice to an extreme skier!
You can arrive in any these resorts having never had put on a ski and leave a week later able to get safely down a slope.

Ski slopes are graded form green (easiest) to Black (hardest) and are all well marked so you can enjoy your skiing safely

As a beginner you will need a warm waterproof jacket, ski trousers, stockings and , good gloves and layers , sunglasses and goggle depending on conditions.

Skis, Poles and boots are best hired for you first few times skiing.

No discsuusion of skiing would be complete without mentioning the import tradition of apres ski.

For some skiers this is as important has having the right ski gear and conditions!

Apres Ski refers to the traditions of enjoying a well earned drink or more after a days skiing! Often with music and dancing in your ski gear. Apres Ski traditions vary frm country to country with Austria having having the best reputation for apres ski
