Make Your Snowboard More Interesting By Customizing It

Snowboarders tend to be one of the more individualistic athletes around. For some reason, the sport seems to attract those with iconoclastic traits. Because of this, it is no shock that a lot of snowboarders wish to exhibit individual traits in their snowboarding attire and equipment. And, one way that many choose to do this is by customising their snowboards.

You can customize a snowboard in a number of ways. Fundamentally, however, your alternatives come down to one of three methods - placing stickers or labels on it, applying a skin to it, or painting it.

The simplest of these methods is to sticker the board - usually with stickers from various companies. The first step is to decide which companies you would like to be associated with. Then, simply write a letter to them expressing your appreciation for their products and ask for a sticker.

If you request nicely, many of the companies will be glad to ship you some for no charge. In addition, many companies sell stickers which you may be able to find in the arts and crafts stores in your community. Once you get them, simply apply them to your board and you can consider yourself customized.

A second, and very popular, way of customizing snowboards is to give it an external skin. What's a snowboard skin? It is simply a thin custom fitted material designed to place over the snowboard. Generally it is constructed using a vinyl material. You have a couple of options if you decide to go with skins. One is to buy pre-designed skins. The second is to design and customize your own skins. In doing so, you can practically put any type of images that you like on it. Skins usually have a polyurethane finish. This is to protect them as well as make maintenance easier.

Finally, painting their snowboard is something that a lot of snowboarders decide on to differentiate themselves from the crowd. Painting is the most complex method of customization. But, in order to pull it off, you have to be somewhat of an artist. With stickers and skins, you simply have to apply the pre-made materials. With paint, however, you need to have a good handle on how to primer, sand, paint, and polyurethane. Unless you already are proficient in these skills, painting a snowboard is probably not a good time to learn them.

If you really want a painted board, however, and you don't have the skills to do it yourself, the simple answer is to hire a graphic artist to design and do one for you. This, of course, is the most expensive option, but in the end, you will probably have a singular and unique snowboard with no other like it.

Whichever customizing technique you choose, however, you can be sure that you will make much more of an impression on the slopes than you will with the standard, vanilla snowboard.
