At one stage, the word 'multi-tasking' used to be major buzzword in our society. Individuals were advised to control their time better and accomplish more in less time, a fad that hasn't gone out of style despite the introduction of counter measures such as down-shifting and job sharing which endeavor to assist individuals to manage the quick speed of modern-day living. However, you may well be asking at this point just what the concept of multi-tasking has got to do with printers.
Well, there's a type of business machine available on the market nowadays which can perform several business functions such as printing, faxing, copying and scanning and also in some instances emailing. Machines such as this are typically referred to as MFPs which stands for Multi Function Product, Peripheral or Printer although the phrase 'Multi Function Printer' is typically employed to talk about this device. As such, these modern multi-functional printers are the ideal multi-taskers as they are able to perform a number of business functions within a single unit.
Needless to say, what multi-functional printers do isn't multi-tasking in the strictest sense as the term refers to the simultaneous taking on of functions but it is near enough for one 'to get the picture', so to speak. The idea is that these business devices are able to help save time by optimizing office functions and allowing you to take care of other work. What is more, devices like this may be programmed to carry out complex processes automatically because they have the memory to do so. Some MFPs are so sophisticated that they even possess document editing and finishing functionality.
That being said, not every MFP can do everything on the planet. The smaller sized AIOs or 'all-in-one' desktop devices that are intended for domestic or small business use are normally only able to scan and print and perhaps copy and fax as well. It's also feasible to acquire an AIO capable of burning images onto DVDs yet because all-in-one printers are much smaller and made for individual and small-business rather than industrial use there's naturally a limit to what they're able to accomplish. However, one of the primary benefits of having a multifunctional business device of any kind is that they save you a considerable amount of space compared with having individual devices for scanning, printing, copying and faxing.
However, just because the MFP can 'multi-task' whilst at the same time saving desk space does not mean that it doesn't need some TLC from you. Sure, it is an inanimate object devoid of human emotions but it is still more likely to last longer if it's well maintained. This means having it serviced on a regular basis and utilizing the right ink, for instance.
Before you purchase any office machine, even printers that are not multi-functional, it is wise to look into the post sales service provided by the supplier. A good after sales maintenance and repair service is often worth its weight in gold as regular servicing and efficient maintenance can not only prolong the life of a machine but facilitate smooth functioning too. Moreover, the benefit to the user of using a device that functions effectively all of the time isn't to be underestimated as anyone who has ever been frustrated by a faulty printer is well aware.
