There are a number of well-known rivers situated around the world that have been valuable and essential to man for countless decades. The Zambezi is one of them and will also be the primary focus of this article. Nevertheless, how many of us think instantly of this particular waterway if we contemplate well known waterways?

In the event that a person thinks about world-renowned riverine systems, the Ganges in India could come in your thoughts, or the Nile which flows through Egypt. Maybe it is the mighty South American Amazon that you visualize when you think about a big riverine system or the long and winding Mississippi which extends from Lake Itasca where it originates, to New Orleans, the town where the "good times roll". Then again, perhaps for you personally it's the Volga, or the Danube. Basically, the famous waterway you think of first is likely to be the one you've got the most connection to. Hence if you ask an angler who has fished in the Zambezi then this will in all probability be the river they mention because it is famous for its sportfishing opportunities, among other things.

For the pastoral communities that dwell along its banks, the Zambezi is a very important river indeed as it assists in supporting their daily life via the fishing prospects it offers. Even though Zambezi is known throughout the world as a prime angling site, and fishermen from all around the globe travel to it for the fishing opportunities, the local people who reside here fish to live rather than to indulge in the activity of sportfishing. You may recall the true tale of Jeremy Wade, a British angler who caught the goliath tigerfish in the Congo River. The angler attempted to revive the tigerfish so that it could go on living much to the consternation of the local residents since a catch of that size possessed the ability to feed an entire village. It isn't a stretch to think that the situation could have been identical had this mammoth fish been caught from the Zambezi.

Because it's such a lengthy river - the 4th longest on the African continent to be exact - the Zambezi flows through no fewer than 9 African nations on its way to the Indian Ocean at which point it runs into the Mozambique Channel. It features the incredible Victoria Falls that can be seen from possibly Zimbabwean or Zambian soil depending on which side of the falls you happen to be on. Two dams, the Cahora Bassa and the Kariba are used to provide a number of African countries with hydroelectric power. Naturally, the Zambezi is also residence to a range of fauna and plants both upon the banks and in the waters.

That being said, this spectacular river is far more than a group of coordinates with a length and width arranged on paper inside a Geography book. It's a continually flowing life force that's as awe-inspiring as it's beautiful and needs to be seen with the human eye for the splendor to be thoroughly comprehended. Regardless of whether we personally view a body of water such as the Zambezi as life supporting, a great site to fish, a natural wonder of great splendor or even as a geographical coordinate, it has to be witnessed to be understood.
