It seems like everything eventually changes. Identification cards are no exception to the rule. The identification process has changed as well as the population has exploded and the ability to identify everyone has gotten harder and harder. The simple identification card with a name, department and title may suffice for some companies and organizations but there are others areas will they will not do at all. If identification is the first line of defense than access has got to be number two. The Proximity card is used far and wide for access control operations. These cards are durable and can wear many different faces.

First and foremost the proximity card is used for access functions. Many companies and organizations around the world have sensitive or secured areas that present access control restrictions. These can be found in numerous government offices as well as hospitals and even larger educational facilities. These cards have replaced the old fashioned key in many circumstances. The problem with keys is they can be reproduced. These access control cards however can be protected against fraudulent activities. If it gets lost it is simply deprogrammed and therefore would be useless to anyone who found it.

When a company or organization purchases the total access control identification system it opens up many opportunities for them. This software not only controls access but can also be used as an attendance control system as well. These cards have built in metal coils that can hold lots of data. Part of the identification system is the card reader. These card readers can be mounted at access control points. When an employee wishes to enter a restricted area they can swipe their card through the reader and the information stored in that data coil will either enable entry or deny it.

These cards are great and the best part is they can now be produced right in the office. The days of outsourcing are long gone. All you need is a photo ID card printer that produces these types of cards. You can find them in many popular brands from Fargo to Magicard. Depending on your budget there are many different kinds of printers that can be purchased. Obviously, the more you can spend the more your printer will be able to do. With the right software a company or organization can produce their own cards with a badge printer and present them to employees as not only ID cards but as access control and time cards as well.

When the employee enters work they swipe the card to clock in. When they leave work they swipe the card to clock out. The identification card system automatically stores all of their attendance information. In addition, their cards can be programmed for access control so they cannot go where restricted. Yes the proximity card is a card with many faces. Whether they are produced with the magnetic stripe or the metallic coil or both these cards are wonders to behold in a world where identification has become a vital part of our existence.
