Colorado University at Boulder offers over 3,400 courses every semester in more than 150 areas. There are also about 85 academic majors one can obtain at the bachelor's level. Their highly recognized academic departments and programs provide students with the opportunity to major in astrophysical and planetary science, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, engineering, English, entrepreneurial business, geography, integrative physiology, law, music, physics, and psychology. Additionally many undergraduates participate in a variety of honors programs, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, as well as 10 different residential academic programs that feature small classes. With all the options currently available at CU-Boulder, making good use of your academic advisor is the best way to make sure you are on the right track to the degree you want.

At Colorado University at Boulder, academic advisors are usually department faculty who specialized in aiding students along their academic journey. All new coming students attended CU-Boulder are required to receive advising before they register. This process is normally completed during their orientation sessions. Likewise all graduating students are required to go through a checkout process conducted by their advisor. Any mandatory advising should not be left to the last minute as there are oftentimes cut off dates that need to be adhered to.

The policies for advising at CU-Boulder are just a bit different for each college and for each class level. As students advance through their major they will be allowed more independence as far as academic decision-making goes. With that being said, the advisors at CU-Boulder are there to aid their students in every way possible throughout their entire college career. As a student, your advisor will be there for you from orientation until graduation. They are to act as your primary resource regarding any and all academic issues, opportunities, degree requirements, and other offered programs in your major.

All CU-Boulder students are highly encouraged to visit their academic advisor in the beginning of the semester in order to create a map for success in their course of study. It is wise to keep your advisor up to date regarding any serious matters pertaining to major transfers, unsatisfactory grades, academic suspension, other pending disciplinary actions, or if there are extenuating circumstances or difficulties that are preventing you from completing your requirements. Colorado University at Boulder advisors are there to help their students achieve the goals they have set out while guiding them through the learning process at the university.
