I never really considered bamboo before. When I thought of bamboo, I thought they were the type of trees in Asia and so forth. Well, I learned something today. Bamboo is actually of the grass family. They grow as tall as trees, get pretty thick so naturally I thought they were some sort of tree. Well, they are not. They are grass that grows at an amazing rate. Some species of bamboo can grow up to three feet in a day. It is said that you can actually watch the bamboo grow. Wouldn't that be cool? To actually be able to see something like that grow? Because of bamboos astonishing growth rate, it is an ideal renewable resource. Which is probably why bamboo is so sought after today. Not only is it a great renewable resource, it is environmentally friendly, and so versatile it can be used for just about anything. From a food source and medicinal properties to building structures and clothing. Bamboo is strong and sturdy enough that some use it to build their homes out of, and its fibers are soft enough to make clothing soft as silk.
Clothing made from bamboo is easy to care for. It is a sturdy fabric that, as I said before, feels like silk on your skin. It dries very quickly, more quickly than your regular cotton fabrics. You can wear you clothing made from bamboo year round, as it helps to keep you cool in the summer, and helps keep you warm in the winter. It is easily dyed so there is no need for the more common harsher dyes. Bamboo clothing is naturally hypo allergenic and it pulls body odors away from your body, releasing it into the air. Pretty neat, huh? The same things goes for bed sheets made of bamboo. They help keep you either warm or cool, and they are extremely soft and durable.
Bamboo flooring is a great alternative to softwood or hardwood flooring because it can be harvested much quicker than lets say, an oak. An oak takes ten to twenty years to reach maturity, where bamboo used for flooring is harvested about its seventh year. Big difference. Your bamboo flooring can easily be dyed any color and offers a variety of designs. Benefits of bamboo flooring are that it is highly available, its lightweight, the material is very strong, upkeep at a minimum, simple to intall and simply cost effective.
