Stress is a feeling that's created when we react to particular events.

It's the body's way of rising to a challenge and preparing to meet a tough situation with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness.

We all have stress sometimes. For some people, it happens before having to speak in public.

For other people, it might be before a first date. What causes stress for you may not be stressful for someone else.

Sometimes stress is helpful – it can encourage you to meet a deadline or get things done.

But long-term stress can enlarge the risk of diseases like depression, heart disease and a variety of other evils.

Causes of Stress

1. Death: of spouse, family, friend
2. Health: injury, illness, pregnancy
3. Crime: Sexual molestation, mugging, burglary, pick-pocketed
4. Self-abuse: drug abuse, alcoholism, self-harm
5. Family change: separation, divorce, new baby, marriage
6. Sexual problems: getting partner, with partner
7. Argument: with spouse, family, friends, co-workers, boss
8. Physical changes: lack of sleep, new work hours
9. New location: vacation, moving house
10. Money: lack of it, owing it, investing it
11. Environment change: in school, job, house, town, jail

Based on a survey of 52 experts on the psychotherapy of PTSD and 57 experts on psychopharmacology, these Expert Consensus Guidelines® provide guidance on the diagnosis of PTSD and common comorbid conditions, on selecting the overall treatment strategy (whether to begin with psychotherapy or a combination of medication and psychotherapy), and level of care issues.

Guidelines give recommendation for favored psychotherapy techniques and medications for treating specific types of target symptoms and comorbid conditions.

Home Remedies for Stress

Yogurt is the best home remedy for stress. It is rich in vitamin A, B complex and vitamin D. It provides relief from insomnia, migraine and cramps associated with menstruation. It is a best diet for stress.

Make a tea by pouring a cup of hot water over one teaspoon of dried sage leaves. Strain and sweetened, with honey, if required. This is also good natural remedy for stress.

Blackstrap molasses are another effective food remedy. It is a by-product of the sugar refining process and is rich in iron and B vitamins.

Alfalfa and sunflower seeds are also effective in the stress treatment.

Sprouts are also effective diet for stress as they are rich in calcium.

The leaves of holy basil known as tulsi are highly beneficial in the stress treatment.

Chew 12 leaves of basil twice a day morning and evening for preventing stress. Tulsi is known as adaptogen or antis tress agents.

These herbs can be taken as capsules or can be infused in boiling water to make tea. Good home remedy for stress.
