Tarragona, a province located on the southern side of Catalonia is a moderately populated city which has a rich tradition much earlier to the Roman period. In fact, Tarragona was a part of the Roman Empire. Now Tarragona is a fully industrialized city. Apart from this, the city has many places which are of interest to the tourists. So Tarragona is visited by people both for business purpose and by tourists for holidaying. This city has many places of interest for tourists:

Arco de Bera:

This arch believed to have been built in the first century just outside Tarragona is an architectural marvel. Most part of the arch has been conserved and a portion of the arch contains an inscription which throws some light on this arch.

Balcony:

This is also called ‘Mediterranean Balcony’ located at a place called ‘Rambla Nova’. It provides a splendid view of the Mediterranean Sea, the Tarragona Port and other beaches. In fact the natives of Tarragona love this place because they have a belief that those who touch the railings of this balcony are bestowed with good luck.

Beach:

Needless to mention, the beaches in Spain are fully geared for the tourists and for those who love water sports. The beach in Tarragona does not lag behind in this. This beach is one of the most splendid places for the tourists.

The Cathedral:

The interesting part of this cathedral is that it is a beautiful combination of Gothic, Romanesque and Arabic architecture. The construction of the cathedral is believed to have been completed in 1776. The cathedral has three blocks and each of the blocks has beautiful works of sculptures and paintings. This stunningly beautiful cathedral attracts large number of tourists throughout the year.

Amphitheater:

According to archeologists, this amphitheater is believed to have been built during the Roman Empire. In this amphitheater, a structure of the ‘God Miracle’ (called ‘el milagro’) has been installed. This is now used as a penitentiary. This amphitheater is located just near the beach.

De Sta Maria cathedral:

This is yet another popular cathedral which is a renowned place of Tarragona. The construction of this cathedral could not be completed because of what is called as ‘Black death’ which played havoc on the region where the cathedral was built. The entrance to the cathedral has the most spectacular diocese museum.

Tarragona today:

Now this is a fully industrialized city. It has many villas, apartments and hotels where the tourists would certainly feel at home.
